Julia and Emily's World

On Sunday we celebrated Julia's 5th birthday with TWO parties! The first party was at the Fun Zone which included her friends from school. The kids had a great time in the various jumping castles, climbers and toys. Even some of the parents played as well. After the Fun Zone we had a party for family back at our place. Lots of noise, food and fun. Russell is a pretty entertaining lad...not shy at all. Julia thanks everyone for the very generous gifts she received and the good times!

Julia is 5 years old today! Wow! Time flies. We first celebrated at school where they had a birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday. Mommy, Emily and Grandma came too. Later we went to Boston Pizza (Julia's choice) for dinner. Aunt Weezie came too. Julia like it when they came to the table and sang Happy Birthday...very loudly! Emily cried.

Julia lost two teeth this week! She now has lost 4 teeth before her 5th birthday. I hope her new teeth fit into her small head!

Saturday was Emily's 3 month birthday. Mommy likes to celebrate these milestones with cake and hats. Luckily there was no singing. Emily could barely keep her eyes open. Aunt Weezie and Grandma joined in on the festivities. Then I took off to see the Leafs!

Emily is now 11 lbs 4 oz. Her last ultrasound showed that her left kidney is only slightly swollen. She is now off her antibiotics. Yeah!!! Emily continues to sleep well at night despite her reluctance to go down easily. The next challenge is getting her to take a bottle. That hasn't been going too well yet.

Emily is now 10 lbs 4 oz. She has more than doubled her birth weight of 4 lbs 13 oz. She got her VCUG done this week. The results were negative (no backflow of urine from her bladder to her ureters). She'll be going for another ultrasound on her kidney later this month. The good news is that her colic behaviour seems to be subsiding over the past week. She has more good nights than bad nights. Her sleep times are getting better too. She will fall asleep now at around 1am and sleep until around 6am, get up and feed and go back to sleep for a couple more hours. She still has most of her hair! It's thinning out a bit but getting longer. It attracts a lot of attention when she's out and about.

Today Julia went skating for the first time. We were at Grandma's and we went to the Scarborough Civic Centre with her cousins. She did good for her first time and wants to go again. I found it tough holding her up. My back and feet were killing me and we were only there for about 30 minutes. Last night Emily had a really good night. She didn't cry and slept most of the night. Julia slept at Grandma's house so we really got a good nights sleep. We slept in until 10:30am! Nice!

Happy New Year! On New Year's Day we went to Mama's like we usually do. I love the food. Julia and Sheryl...not so much. Emily got to meet all her extended cousins, Aunts and Uncles and of course Mama, her Great Grandmother. Emily is Mama's 8th Great Grandchild.

This afternoon we went to Gage Park for some New Year's Eve festivities. The real events started at around 6pm but we just went early for the rides (needless to say there were no line-ups). The wind was cold but it didn't seem to bother Julia. They had buses there to warm up in. That was the best part. Last post for 2008. Happy New Year! Thanks for reading.
